What could be better than an afternoon of sailing followed by a gathering of sailors under the pavilion with a cold one and hors d’oeuvres?
Let’s try it at the Cabin Boater’s First Sail & Happy Hour!
This will be happening on Saturday, May 11. We’ll hit the water around lunch time and spend the afternoon crossing each other’s wakes.
Starting at 5:00 snacks and beer will be provided under the pavilion to prime the pump. Please bring anything else you’d like to share to eat or drink. I’m betting there will be a lot of stories to tell. I will also be looking for feedback and suggestions on our plans for this year’s sailing season.

This class is designed to encourage and promote sailing activities the whole family can enjoy. You and your child will learn the basics of sailing and gain confidence on the water while sailing pram dinghies, Sunfish or Lasers. Our program will be family orientated for parent and child participants. The class will briefly cover sailing concepts followed by on the water experiences. Classes in each session will be very hands on driven. Each class participant will be able to sail their own vessel. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Adults may sign up more than one student.
Tuition for this class is $50 for both the parent and child to attend. Parents can sign up for either the morning or afternoon session. The morning session starts at 9am and the afternoon session starts at 1pm.
Here’s what happens: We will start the day out sailing on the lake. Keep your VHF radios on Channel 68. About 3:00 in the afternoon we will head over to Houseboat Cove (or an alternate location) to drop anchor and tie together. We will work with anchors and fenders to make a snug secure little floating village. Bring supplies for dinner, either to cook on board, or picnic style. We will have a raft up party and watch the sunset. Stay as long as you like, or leave when you need to. Johnny Robinson
We will have charcoal burning, just bring something to grill, a dish to share, and come ready to have fun.
After dinner, members are encouraged to enjoy a moonlight sail on the longest day of the year.
My favorite experience in a cabin boat is sleeping overnight at anchor. Wake up to bird calls and the mist on the water, fish jumping and morning quiet. Add some hot coffee in the cockpit and that just doesn’t get old.
We will begin the day with free sailing on the lake. At 6:00 we will rally at a designated anchoring spot and drop anchor.
Before sunset a dinghy will ferry sailors to shore where we can enjoy a beach campfire and camaraderie. You may eat dinner on your own boat, or bring it ashore.
Then back to the boats for the night.
Where we anchor depends on the wind direction. I have several spots in mind and will communicate which one the night before, based on the forecast.
If you have any doubts or questions about your anchor, please send me an Email. I will work with you so you can be sure you’re prepared.

Let’s trailer our boats to another body of water and sail together. Join Sail Safari - Using your boat to actually go somewhere is very different than sailing in circles. Staying at a different anchor every night, seeing the shoreline reveal and pass, being on the same tack for hours and actually navigating, is a profoundly better experience. Last year we went to Green Bay Wisconsin. This year's destination will be in response to member feedback. Johnny Robinson
