  • NOTICE OF RACE

  • 1.     RULES
  • 1.1.   The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined by The Racing Rules of Sailing, and the current rules of the Thistle Class Association, except as any of these are altered by the sailing instructions.
  • 1.2.   Racing rules will be changed as follows:
  • 1.2.1. Rule 61.3 is changed so that “A boat intending to protest about an incident that occurs in the racing area shall notify the Race Committee finish boat of her intention as soon as possible after finishing, including the boat identification number of the boat(s) being protested”.
  • 2.     ELIGIBILITY
  • 2.1.   This regatta is open to any Thistle Class Sailboat.
  • 2.2.   A liability waiver must be signed by participants when paying for registration during Check-in.
  • 3.     REGISTRATION and ENTRY
  • 3.1.   Eligible boats may register on line using: Thistle Regatta Registration Form
  • 3.2.   Registration will also be available at the regatta site on Saturday.
  • 3.3.   The entry fee is $50 (cash or check) per boat.
  • 3.4.   Payment will be collected at the regatta.
  • 4.     SCHEDULE
  • 4.1.   Day 1, Saturday June 12

  • 5.     SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
  • 5.1.   The sailing instructions will be available at registration.
  • 6.     Radio Communication:
  • 6.1.   Competitors may receive radio transmission from the Race Committee in accordance with Thistle Class CMR 74.  The Race committee may communicate safety or race related information on a designated channel.  Competitors are encouraged to monitor the safety channel throughout the race when conditions warrant.
  • 7.     VENUE
  • 7.1.   The regatta will be sailed in the main basin of Clinton Lake.  Launching will be at the Clinton Lake Sailing Association boat ramp or at the nearby Clinton Lake Marina boat ramp.  While boats are being launched, they may be rafted at the CLSA dock, due to limited space.  Please bring a boat fender in case they are needed to protect your boat.
  • 8.     SCORING
  • 8.1.   The Low Point System of Appendix A2, will be used except that each yacht’s series score will be the total of all her scores. A minimum of one race will constitute a regatta.
  • 9.     SUPPORT & SPECTATOR BOATS
  • 9.1.   Spectator boats may be available via sign-up at the venue on Race Days.
  • 10.  PRIZES
  • 10.1.   Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 skippers and crews.
  • 11.  Directions
  • 11.1.  Clinton Lake is located roughly 35 miles from Champaign/Urbana or Bloomington/Normal, IL. The CLSA pavilion is best reached from Route 10 south of the lake. When traveling east from Clinton IL, find White Pigeon/Marina road and drive north. Take the entrance to Clinton Lake Marina and look for the CLSA facility just north (to your right) of the marina grounds.

    Lunch Complimentary: Brats, chips, and fruit

    Happy Hour: CLSA painkillers and punch.

    Dinner: Steak Barbeque $15 per person

    Sunday

  • Complimentary Breakfast: Coffee, doughnuts and fruit.
  • Lunch leftover: Brats, chips, and fruit

         

    13.  Our intention is to conform to the Governor's virus guidelines:

  • 13.1.   Sailors who are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus no longer need to wear a mask outdoors when in small gatherings.
  • 13.2.   People who are not fully vaccinated should continue the previous recommendations on mask-wearing, social distancing, hand-washing, etc.
  • 13.3.   If you are not feeling well, please let us know, it's ok to stay home.
  • 13.4.   It is up to each participant to decide what their acceptable level of risk is.

  • 14.  Lodging
  • 14.1.   There are numerous hotel/motels in the area within 45 minutes from the lake in Bloomington/Normal, Champaign/Urbana. There are also a few motel rooms in Clinton (10 min) and Farmers City (20 min) near the marina.   
  • 14.2.    Primitive camping will be available on site, regular camping amenities are also available nearby at the Clinton Lake State Recreation Area.
