Great winds and no rain made for a good weather evening to put the finishing touches on a successful inaugural sailing class, one that was a collaboration of Parkland College and CLSA’s Flying Scot Fleet 135 led by Eric Bussell.  Following is an excerpt from Eric’s report on the class, which met Wednesday evenings in June:

We hope [the 2013 racing class] is only the beginning of many great sailing experiences for our current (and future) students. Judging by the many conversations and observations of boats on the water, our inaugural class was a resounding success. Highlights of the class include:

·        Full enrollment of 10 students with 97% attendance through 3 classes

·        Realistic race management (3-5 races per class) with 5-minute starting sequences with accurate flags and horns

·        Hands-on instruction with sail trim, spinnaker sets, and driving the boat Off-the-water instruction on sailing rules, racing scenarios, and Q&A

·        Future sailing and/or racing opportunities for current students who want to further their interest in sailing.
