The Flying Scot fleet was eager to get the racing season underway, so they decided to initiate informal races on Wednesday evenings. Below is a story by Deb Aronson. In anticipation of the Sadie Hawkins (women skippers only) Regatta July 19, Deb skippered "Suzie Q" in all three races held on May 28, 2008. Photos were taken by Ben Williams, Debby's crew.

The Flying Scot fleet had its first Wednesday night racing event last night. The weather could not have been more beautiful. The wind was moderate, the skies were clear and the lake was empty except for us! Joe and Denise Karbarz, Chris and Rick Wojnar, Ben Williams and Deb Aronson, and Bill Vokac all were there. Bill was certifying a sailor and giving rides on his boat, so he did not participate in the racing, but the other three boats had three fun, short races, using a single starting mark and the buoys that were already out in the lake. Ben used an incredibly powerful whistle to run the start sequence and finish the racers, all while crewing for Deb!

Afterwards we all hung around and talked about the races and rigging techniques as the sun set over the trees and the herons took flight.

We are planning another set of races next Wednesday. Starting whistle is 6 p.m.
