Wednesday evening Magic

The days are lengthening now and that special time has returned to Clinton Lake between 5:00p.m. and 8:oo on Wednesday evenings. With the usual concerns about potential weather threats and goofy or non-existant winds [to excuse oneself from going]..the Scot Fleet [led by Hosts Ben and Deb Williams] had a blast. It turned out there wasn't any threatening weather at all and the winds were 10 to 12 mph! Clsa even had two new visitors show up[Carole Kaufman and Terry Klintworth] asking questions about learning to sail..and boy did they get a ride they didn't expect! Ben and Deb split up on two different boats to help get them on board with racing practice. The races were highly spirited as many Hoots and Hollers could be heard over the brisk puffs of air shooting thru the trees.Joe Karbarz surprised everyone onboard"Cup of Tea"by dominating the first race and winning..flying spinnaker to perfection. Then came John Heizer to shine as he bested Ben and crew in "Suzie Q " to the windward mark ..rounding ahead first in the fleet. John and Ben hoisted their spinnakers and it came down to the last few meters with Ben Williams managing to "cover" John by going to windward of him and "taking" his air..and just nudging
John's boat "Blown Away" by inches at the finish. You could hear the shouting! You can be out there with them on Wednesday nights to strut your stuff! Next time don't"miss the boat" by finding another excuse to keep YOU and your crew at home and missing the great sunsets at Lake Clinton!
