Two Flying Scot skippers, Don Johnson and Ben Williams, competed in the District regatta this past weekend (July 10 & 11) at Lake Delavan in Wisconsin. We had great weather, enough (almost too much!) wind Saturday to run three races and barely enough wind on Sunday for one more race. There were 28 boats at the regatta — a great turnout! Ben Williams and crew, Deb Aronson, placed 16th and Don Johnson with crew, Claire Williams, placed 21st, with finishes as high as 17. In one race Don was fourth to the windward mark!!
We had a great time!
In addition, Ben and Deb's son, Doug Williams, came and took fantastic photos of the racing. He and Ben set up a slide show Saturday evening, which everyone enjoyed. Plans are afoot to set up a website so everyone can see all the photos. Stay tuned!
Lake Delavan is a small lake with lots of motorboat traffic, though there is a size limit for boats on the lake. The regatta was very well run and Delavan has a lovely club. Including all the usual amenities, Delavan had a water trampoline, which Claire and Don enjoyed after the sailing on Saturday!
Next year the districts will be held on Medicine Lake near Minneapolis. We hope to have even more Clinton Lake boats participate in this great regatta!
