Clsa crowned Joe and Linda Budden as the new Cabin boat distance race Champions of Clinton Lake. The two day racing event saw two half distant races on Saturday and a "Full distance"[11 mile] on Sunday. The winds were light thruout and demanded extensive attention to details that really fatigued the participants trying to seperate from the fleet. The winning boat"Makin' Tyme" is a macgregor 26 swing keel water ballasted boat that won one out of the three races[2nd and 3rd in the others] by using all available canvas [except in the one race they lost when they decided to "reduce sail" as winds piped up].Dave Toland on "Blue Chip"was a force throughout as he did his traditional "horizon job" on the rest of the fleet[except for Joe and Linda's boat] by pulling out his long Spar pole to push his big genoa all the way out running long off wind reaches.Although they fought valiantly all day previous winners like Bill Vokac's Mac 25 and Rick Wojnar's Catalina 25 could only languish far behind as their heavy iron keels where a dis-advantage in the conditions.Even former Laser Worlds competitor Rich Evans[with an aussie as crewmate!] could not challenge anyone in his Cat rigged Freedom 21.
