The Scots were really bringing it on Sunday afternoon in the final triangle race of the season.
The previous night at the Commodore's feast (a tremendous success saluting Rick Langlois’s ending reign as commodore), everyone was lamenting about the next day’s wind forecast of 2 to 3 mph.
Lo and behold when we arrived at the lake, there was a solid breeze filling the whole lake and building! Turned out to be a 10 to 15 perfect westerly all day.
The Scots were there with Thistles and cabin boats, including the return of Larry and Barb Bethard on their Capri 22.
There were three races completed on the day: W4 (windward/leeward twice around) for the dinghies and W2 (once around) for the cabin boats.
We all started together at the same time — which lent excitement to the starts! In the Scots Rick Wojnar and Eric Bussell battled all day and ended in a tie for first place with Ben and Debbie Williams a close third. The first race favored the left side of the course, but as the day wore on, sailors like Joe and Linda Budden in "Blue Eyes" took advantage and went to the right side and nearly beat the whole fleet in the third and last race.
Next Saturday will be the last distance race this year. Clinton Lake is beautiful right now -- take advantage of it!
