Announcing the February board meeting of the 2011 sailing season! Monday, February 7th at 6:00PM; Imo's Restaurant in Farmer City.

Hello sailors! It is FINALLY time to start thinking about things nautical (and warm). We're through the worst of it!

We will be having the annual Valley Forge Forage (begun as a Winter activity vaguely in honor of Presidents' Day) at Mascoutin State Park near Clinton Lake (see map URL below). We will meet in the parking lot near the Houseboat Cove Trail at Mascoutin starting at 2 PM, Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011. This will be followed by an optional dinner at Monical's in Clinton.

Announcing the March board meeting of the 2011 sailing season! Monday, March 14th at 6:00PM; Imo's Restaurant in Farmer City.

CLSA Harbor Spring Work Day – April 30, 2011
1. Grounds – rake leaves in and around pavilion – put in burn pit & burn
a. Beach – remove weeds and debris to burn pit – rakes, shovels
b. Sunfish launches – put on beach in last years location - anchor?
2. Toilet – level out with wood under south side – pry bar, 2x4-4’ long for shim under low side
3. CLSA Boats – pump up tires, move to grass area, clean out bottoms, put tarp over to keep clean – air tank, small broom, “dust pan”, bungee cords
a. Where to place boats that are to be sold? Clean out and cover them?

The 2011 CLSA Windsurf Regatta will be held on May 7.

Registration will begin at 12:00

Skippers meeting will be at 12:30

First race will be begin at aproximately 1:00pm.

The registration fee will be $10.00 for non-members and free to current CLSA members.

Awards will be be given for the top three positions.

Low point scoring system will be used.

A small boat racing clinic will be on Saturday June 4 at Noon for all interested club members at the CLSA pavilion.

The target audience is someone who may be reluctant to give sailboat racing a try. The objective is to reduce sailboat racing intimidation, by simplifying the racing rules and working on boat handling.

The clinic will include:
Boat setup assistance
Basic sail trim
Quick review of Basic Racing Rules
Starts
Boat handling drills on the water
Racing practice

The concepts will be illustrated using a Laser, but will generally apply to other small boats.

A small boat racing clinic will be held at Noon on Sunday July 24 for all interested club members at the CLSA pavilion.

The target audience is someone wanting to improve their upwind sailing performance.

Based upon student interest, the clinic will include:
Boat setup assistance
Upwind sailing techniques
Basic upwind sail trim
Quick review of Racing Rules that apply upwind
On the water upwind boat handling drills
Short course racing practice

A small boat racing clinic will be held at Noon on Saturday August 13 for all interested club members at the CLSA pavilion.

The target audience is someone wanting to improve their upwind sailing performance.

On the water upwind boat handling drills

The August board meeting will be held at Imo's Restaurant in Farmer City. Monday Aug 22nd, 6:00PM

We are hosting an Introduction to Sailing event at Clinton Lake Sailing Association pavilion. Learn about the club, get some hands-on sailing instruction, and go for a day sail!

See you there at 1:00PM Friday!

This event is subject to cancelation if no one volunteers to coordinate the activities.

A triangle race has been added to the schedule on Sunday September 11 to replace the Hydroplane races that were canceled.

We have an open date on the calendar because the U of I regatta was moved to another location.

This is an opportunity to try something new and fun.

We will be having a relay race of probably 2 teams.

Teams will be made up of a group of boats with a similar Portsmouth handicap total.
for example team 1 may have (a thistle, scot, and Capri22) team two may have (a thistle, laser and Hunter 260)

Every boat has a Portsmouth handicap rating, so there are endless combinations to equalize the teams.
