Chris Wojnar's race report for Saturday, July 12

It all sounded so ominous Friday evening as race comittee Rick Atterberry gave serious attention to cyclonic storms with Bow echos that were approaching central illinois.... he dutifully warned expectant racers via internet that it didn't look so good for Saturday's scheduled distance race. As you all know it seemed like hell had broken loose later that evening into the wee early hours Saturday morn... but as many a hard core CLSA sailor knows you go down to the lake no matter what [weather forecasters be damed!] As it turned out willing racers arrived at the marina around 11:30 a.m. to find the sun shining brightly and race committee sitting under pavilion waiting for sign-ups! The winds were nearly perfect at 12 to 15 mph and six boats arrived at the starting line for a half distance[to the dam and back]. Three cabin boats led by Gerry Christman [Capri 22], Bill vokac [San Juan 21] and Larry Bethard [Capri 22] along with Two Flying Scots helmed by "Sadie Hawkins" entrants Deb Williams on "Suzie Q "and Gina Wojnar on "Morkin" strut there stuff. New members from Bloomington topped off the fleet as Rich Ebends and wife Wanda with son Will and daughter Susanna bravely set out in CLSA's own 14 ft. Lido... sailing it brilliantly and demonstrating great skill in the blustery uneven oscillating winds of Clinton Lake.... finishing under full way! Moral of the story is don't give up the ship... if ya don't like the weather. just . hang around a while... This upcoming weekend will be a doozy... Sadie Hawkins on Saturday for the ladies and a triangle Sunday for everyone... noon skipper's meeting at the CLSA pavilion both days [it's all on our CLSA website]... hope you can come!
